Promised in No Man’s Sky (#1)
We all like to promise a lot in new game projects, but very rarely what is promised is fulfilled. Therefore, I decided to reflect on those projects that were very expected, but turned out to be practically failures.

Dude, you talk about “promised” in an interesting way. Firstly, Sean Murray was at this VGH debut and already there it became known that the game was being made by a small indie studio, that there would be a procedural Universe, etc. Secondly, no one ran around and hung up on them the status of GENIUS WHO INVENTED PROCEDURAL GENERATION (which, purely, by the way, has nothing to do with randomness), because back in the 80s there was a tiny game Elite, in which there was also a Holacteque (and apparently not even one) with millions of systems. And all thanks to procedural generation. Thirdly, how does the information that you CAN get to the center of the galaxy in 20 hours correlate with the fact that the game has (or doesn’t have) billions of unique planets on which you can walk for hours?? Well, fourthly (this is actually a question for the global Internet) WHY IS EVERYONE SO FUCKED ABOUT multiplayer?? Well, that is, it was not shown in any trailer, no one promised the golden mountains of the cooperative either (the existence of MP was mentioned something like 3-4 times in my memory, and then only in passing). And then a game came out where you and at most a few tens of thousands of other players are hanging out at the same time in a universe of quintillions of stars (which already reduces the chance of meeting to one in a billion somewhere), where there is no normal galactic map, where there is no way to interact with someone EVEN if you meet him in person… and I’m also silent about the fact that, as one of the developers correctly later noted, the network code, synchronization and interaction capabilities are not a bad number of man-hours for banal introduction. And an order of magnitude more – for polishing and bringing to mind. In short, FUR. A 15-person studio failed to revolutionize the gaming industry. And about the same Molyneux, everyone just took it and forgot about it
Well, look, I understand that the studio https://love2play-casino.co.uk/ is not that big and they couldn’t do much, but still, why did they promise so much?.
It’s statements like these that I don’t understand. How much did they promise?? Let’s talk about such things specifically, what exactly Murray promised and what exactly he did not fulfill. It’s not that I was hanging on his every word, but I heard that there will be research, procedural generation, battles on earth and in space, resource collection, crafting, trading, upgrading ships and equipment, NPCs and interaction with them, and the goal is to get to the center. And multiplayer was mentioned in passing. Of this ALL, there is only multiplayer in the game, there is an additional goal (the path of the Atlas). Another thing is that ships fly crookedly, battles in space are unbearable, research gets boring quickly and in general the generation cannot be varied. But again, it IS all in the game. But promises like “You will fall in love with this game for 150 hours in a week!"I personally haven’t heard. What did Sean Murray promise you that is NOT in the game??
So the fact of the matter is that between “I waited” and “they promised” there is an endless abyss. I didn’t like the game, I played “Prohodnyak” for it and don’t worry. But I am categorically against the fact that the Internet is imposing on Sean Murray the image of the new Peter Molyneux, who promised that in Fable trees would grow in real time and a really bunch of other things that were not seen in games later. This is what I’m trying to fight, not creating a positive image for No Man’s Sky.
Well, look, I understand that the studio is not that big and they couldn’t do much, but still, why did they promise so much?. As for me, the game has become more like an example of a demonstration of world generation, like Crysis with its graphics. It would be somehow more interesting to play with multiplayer, my personal opinion. At least there’s some variety. As for Elite, I forgot about them. I liked Elite Dangerous myself. But what about No Man’s Sky, if they had released it in some Early Acces, then maybe it would have received more flattering reviews. Maybe their next game will be able to make, if not a revolution in the industry, then at least become a quality product.
I was expecting colorful corners of the planet where it would be interesting to fly or go on foot. So that it can attract people for many hours, but it turns out that you encounter almost everything in the game in just 2 hours. The same trailer from E3 is worth remembering, when we were shown giant diplodocus, more living planets. Otherwise you arrive on another planet and have difficulty finding any living creatures. The same plants are similar everywhere, the difference is minimal. To each his own, Fen. I won’t argue because I respect the opinions of others. If you liked the game, let them enjoy it.
To what has been said, only pluses can be added. I came in, looked, then read the comments and realized that there’s nothing special to add to what you said. But not everyone understands what you are trying to explain. It happens.
